EXCISION

WHAT IS IT?

Moles are columns of pigmented tissue, and typically extend from the epidermis and dermis up to 4mm in depth. They can be either flat or elevated. They are generally benign, and their removal is a decision patients make purely for aesthetic reasons.

WHAT IS THE DURATION?

30mins

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Raised moles are typically removed by excision, where a scalpel is used to surgically remove the mole before the incision is closed with sutures.

Local anaesthesia is injected before the mole is excised and sutured. Patients may experience some pressure during the procedure.

DOWNTIME

The wound requires cleaning with aqueous hibitane and should be kept dry. Swimming should be avoided.

Patients are advised to use a broad spectrum sunblock to protect the skin from UV. Patients can apply make-up following treatment.

Swelling and redness will resolve in between 3 to 5 days. A follow-up appointment is required 7 days after the procedure to remove the sutures.
