Excision is a minor surgical procedure used to remove selected moles and skin lesions. By completely removing the lesion, excision offers a precise treatment option for raised or deeper moles and provides tissue for laboratory assessment when clinically indicated. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia with careful wound closure to support optimal healing.
What Is Excision?
Excision is a doctor-performed minor surgical procedure used to completely remove selected skin lesions. It is commonly recommended for raised or deeper benign moles that extend beneath the skin surface or when complete removal is preferred.
After the lesion is removed, the wound is closed using fine sutures to encourage optimal healing and minimise scarring. Where appropriate, the removed tissue may be sent for histological examination.
